Frequently Asked Questions

  • What subjects do you offer tutoring for?
We offer tutoring services for a wide range of subjects, including math (from elementary math to advanced functions and calculus, and everything in between), science (including chemistry, biology, physics, in addition to general science for our younger students), language arts, history, and more. Check our website for a complete list of subjects.
  • Help! My child or I have a test/midterm/exam in the near future and feel hopelessly behind! Can you help?
Of course! Contact us and explain the situation and True North Tutors will contact you (usually within 24 hours) and arrange a lesson as soon as possible. While we make no guarantees, we often have success in last-minute preparation, and can also offer ongoing regular tutoring lessons to prevent similar emergencies in the future! Plus, “crammed” information usually doesn’t stick long-term as well as learning done at a slower pace. It is important to go over the “crammed” subject matter again after the test, and our tutors can help ensure that the subject matter will act as a solid foundation going forward.
  • Who are your tutors?
Our tutors are experienced professionals and educators with expertise in their respective subjects. All are veteran tutors with years of experience, and many are working professionals who apply the concepts they tutor on a daily basis. Our tutors are carefully selected and undergo a thorough screening process.
  • How are your tutors matched with students?
We match tutors with students based on the student's specific needs, learning style, and subject requirements. This ensures the best possible learning experience.
  • What age groups do you provide tutoring for?
We provide tutoring services for students of all ages, from elementary school to high school, and select college/university classes.
  • My child or I do not work well with the tutor we were matched with. Can we change to a different tutor?
Of course! Everyone learns differently, and sometimes learning styles and individual personalities do not mesh in a predictable way. Please contact our support team and we will be happy to assign a different tutor for you.
  • Is online tutoring available?
Yes, we offer online tutoring options to accommodate different preferences and needs.
  • How do online tutoring sessions work?

  • Are in-person tutoring sessions available?
Yes, we offer in-person tutoring lessons, however availability may be limited depending on the geographic location of the student and tutors. We will do our best to accommodate in-person lessons wherever possible.
  • What is your tutoring approach?
Our tutoring approach is tailored to each student's individual needs, as every student learns differently. Tutors focus on building a strong foundation, addressing specific challenges, and fostering a positive learning environment.
  • Do you offer group tutoring or only one-on-one sessions?
We offer both one-on-one and small-group tutoring sessions, depending on your preferences and availability. We will also be offering group review sessions in the near future!
  • What is the duration of a tutoring session?
Tutoring session durations may vary based on the subject and the student's needs. Typically, sessions are around 60 minutes, but we can customize session lengths if needed. Unfortunately we cannot offer lessons shorter than 45 minutes.
  • How do I schedule a tutoring session?
Please contact us to schedule a lesson. By providing the student’s availability, we can ensure that a tutor is available at a time that works for you.
  • What are your rates?
Our rates vary depending on the subject and type of tutoring. After the first couple of sessions, additional sessions are typically pre-purchased in packages. Please contact us for detailed information.

  • Do you offer group lessons?
Occasionally, we offer group sessions for midterm or final exam reviews, specifically for small groups taking the same course at the same school.
